Society of Professional Journalists Back to School BBQ

Senior broadcast journalism student Julia Heimlich explains how to join the Society of Professional Journalists at the University of Maryland to freshmen at the annual Welcome Barbecue on Thursday, Sept. 13. The society is popular and built of a network of journalists that aim to better themselves in the field. 

 
The annual Society of Professional Journalists Welcome Barbecue brings new students together in front of Knight Hall for food and information about joining the society on Thursday, Sept. 13. New University of Maryland students are immediately invited into a community full of students with common interests and goals. 

Capital News Service News Bureau Director and Society of Professional Journalists Supervisor Sue Kopen Katcef takes charge of grilling hot dogs and hamburgers for the Philip Merrill College of Journalism event on Thursday, Sept. 13. She serves as a mentor for students in the society and throughout the school of journalism.
